change of mind, i have subscribed to youtube premium!
When the year started, I was adamant that paying for YouTube Premium was completely unnecessary. I even vowed never to subscribe! But after spending August with someone who had the subscription, my opinion has shifted.
Initially, I thought the ads would annoy me so much that I’d quit YouTube altogether. I even saw it as a way to cut down on my media consumption (by getting so bothered by the ads and this would save me the need for having the willpower to consume less media). But honestly, YouTube is just too good! The platform has endless rabbit holes on any topic imaginable, and I love a good rabbit hole moment, both for entertainment and for leisure research. So, leaving YouTube was never really an option.
Today, I’m starting the free trial (they’ve been aggressively marketing it), and I have to admit, the experience of living with someone who used Premium made it all the more tempting. The best part, as a student, I got the discounted rate of KES 299 and saved KES 200 per month. The individual normal plan is KES 499, and they have a family plan for 5 accounts at KES 949 but restricted to a single household (see how Netflix did us dirty!). What if the family doesn’t live together? they should think of ways to prove that we are family in distance relations, lol!
Anyway, let’s see how this goes. At this point, you can never say never to a subscription (my list has grown so much in the last two years from Evernote, Squarespace, Netflix and so many others that I have been eyeing but not committed). I'm even eyeing one of those AI tools, hoping it'll boost my productivity. Plus, I love keeping up with tech trends, I don't want to be left behind! But at the same time, I would want to create my own subscription thing and make money off the internet, must be nice!
